Volunteer OpportunitiesAAA Fair Credit Foundation is continually seeking like-minded organizations, businesses, government agencies, and individuals to partner with us in the promotion of financial literacy education opportunities. Whether you are a community-minded individual looking to give back to your community or a college student looking to gain additional work experience in your major, AAA Fair Credit Foundation has numerous volunteer opportunities available, all of which support our mission to improve the financial literacy of the communities we serve. Together we can expand access to critical information and institutional supports that enable individuals and families to achieve financial stability. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)Description: Volunteering with the Earn It-Keep It-Save It initiative is fun, easy, and rewarding. You do not need to be an accountant or have finance background to participate. For those not interested in serving as a tax preparer, there are also non tax-oriented volunteer positions, including client greeter/screener roles, site assistants, site leaders, translators, and IT managers. In one volunteer hour, you can help return $1,300 to a hardworking family. On one Saturday of volunteering, you can return $5,200 to your community. Save low-income families the cost of going to a professional tax preparer by volunteering as a tax preparation specialist. Receive free training in simple tax law with an emphasis on the credits available for low-income families. Choice of online, self-study, and hands-on training is available. Time Commitment: Volunteer a minimum of 2 or more hours per week from January 15 - April 16.
SITE COORDINATOR: Manages site schedule and volunteers. Acts as the site expert. Prepares tax returns and acts as the quality reviewer. Must pass tax law certification requirements. INTAKE SPECIALIST: Assists at a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site with greeting clients, client intake forms, customer satisfaction surveys, and other paperwork. This position does not answer tax law questions and does not have to take or pass any tax law certification.TAX PREPARER: Prepares income tax returns for low to moderate income households. IRS tax law training is offered online (self-study) and in a classroom setting. Tax Preparers must pass a basic tax law test to complete certification required to prepare taxes. Self-paced tax law training takes approximately 16-30 hours depending on experience and education. All returns are prepared using the TaxWise software. TaxWise training is also available. FINANCIAL EDUCATION RESOURCE SPECIALIST: Delivers information about Utah Saves and other asset formation building opportunities. Coaches will help promote the opportunity to split tax refunds and encourage filers to save a portion of their tax refund. Coaches will assist filers with signing up for free financial education workshops and money management classes. Coaches are required to attend a 2 hour volunteer training orientation. |
